Stillness

Sheesh, it’s been a busy week. Classes, work, visiting old friends in Flagstaff, family time, working out, an amazing hike, and of course, some yoga.

I won’t pretend I’ve been a model yogi in this week. My reactivity flared up, eager to be annoyed by small things and passing comments. I was hurt, agitated, sad, and basically, well, just quick to react to most things, especially with a negative attitude.

But then I got on my mat.

My beautiful, non-judgmental mat. Closing my eyes and allowing myself to simply be exactly how and where I was. My mind was like a blizzard; flurries of nonsense bouncing about where I longed for stillness. Quiet, Jenna. Let it go. Be still, I silently scolded myself. Then I took the advice of a fellow yogi and started to really listen to the worries I held, attached a little string to them, and let them fly away. (Amazingly, at this very moment, the wind picked up 🍃) One by one they left, clearing up space for stillness. A calm flooded my body. I was at peace.
How often do you feel caught up in the frivolous? I am more often than I would like to admit, but then again, isn’t that what makes me human? Isn’t that what makes us human? I am thankful to know I am not alone in these silly struggles; it is a blessing to be surrounded by so many people striving to better themselves, yogis and non-yogis alike.

In Meditations from the Mat, by Rolf Gates, he mentions the importance of seeking inspiration from various sources in order to keep growing in your practice. Whether that be philosophers, musicians, writers, yogis, whatever it may be–keep your mind open to learn in a daily basis!

On that note, I would love to connect with you! How are you finding stillness? How are you struggling? What inspires you to continue?

If your mind is open, it is impossible to be in life without your perceptions being permanently changed.

Rolf Gates

Namaste, loved ones!

May you demonstrate love, which has no boundary.
Jenna
